Sustainable Shelford is now signed up to the SPEP. This is a scheme spearheaded by South Cambridgeshire District Council aimed at tackling Climate Change. Parish Councils agree to support the scheme, but the work is done by local voluntary groups, and Sustainable Shelford is taking the lead in Great Shelford. There is also a Sustainable Whittlesford group, with whom we have close links. SPEP is important because it shows that there is a will in the parishes to take action on Climate Change. It is also an opportunity to learn from the experience of other groups, to share and cooperate.

As our first SPEP-linked project, we have been loaned 15 energy monitors. These consist of a monitor and a display. The display will tell you the cash value of the electricity you are using per hour, a very graphic way of seeing your daily consumption. Or ou can see the amount of CO2 per hour that you produce. Our energy monitor blog Energy Monitors will show you what users have discovered. If you are interested in loaning one yourself and you are in the Shelfords, please contact us. If you are currently using one, please tell us what you’ve learnt with an addition to the blog.
