*The Vicar told us:
‘Hard disks are professionally wiped of data, but we can arrange for the disk to be removed and left with the owner. Machines and peripherals are refurbished and recycled by members of a charitable trust and either sent abroad for use in the developing world or supplied to charitable organisations in the UK. We prefer machines in working order, but parts from broken equipment can often be salvaged. Our aim is to reduce the amount of perfectly sound hardware going into landfill, or - just as bad - going to Africa, India or the Far East to be broken up and thereby to poison villagers and pollute water systems with the toxic materials it contains, and to avoid the wastage of energy and scarce natural materials required for the manufacture of IT equipment’.
